8-WEEK MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION COURSE

This is an evidence-based method of mindfulness training developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. It can be an important adjunct in the treatment of a variety of health issues. It is also a very effective approach in reducing stress and pain while enhancing the ability to concentrate.

FREE INTRODUCTION TO MINDFULNESS WORKSHOP

Mindfulness is a purposeful way of focusing attention in the present moment. It promotes a presence in the here and now that is often lost in today’s fast paced society. Research indicates that mindfulness practices decrease anxiety and stress while enhancing the ability to concentrate and pay attention. The physical and psychological benefits have been well documented.

This free introductory session will briefly review the meaning and benefits of mindfulness practices, and then present an experiential introduction to breath-based meditation practice. Suggestions will be offered on how to integrate a simple, but effective, mindfulness practice into one’s everyday life. Wear comfortable clothing.

“FORGIVE FOR GOOD” WITH FRED LUSKIN, Ph.D, STANFORD UNIVERSITY LECTURE AND BOOK SIGNING

The 9 steps of forgiveness from the Stanford Forgivenss Project will be highlighted. This ground breaking approach offers insights into the healing powers and medical benefits of forgiveness. Dr. Fred Luskin offers a powerful method in which the emphasis is of letting go of hurt, helplessness and anger while increasing confidence, hope and happiness. Through these powerful techniques individuals can learn how to release unwanted hurts and grudges. Gratitude and compassion will also be explored as aspects of human goodness that can be developed and nourished.

MINDFULNESS FOR TEACHERS WORKSHOP

This free workshop is open to middle and high school faculty and staff who are interested in learning more about how to incorporate Contemplative Studies and Mindfulness into their classroom. This workshop provides teachers of grades 6-12 with the opportunity to expand their understanding of mindfulness practices. The workshop will address teachers’ personal practices as well as introduce hands-on strategies for use in the classroom. The workshop will include a short introduction to the “.b” Mindfulness in Schools Program (mISP) curriculum. Presented by Jim Morley Ph.D. Professor of Clinical Psychology and Carol Bowman Ed.D. Associate Professor of Education with guest presenter, Joe Kiely, Northern Highlands High School.

FREE WEEKLY DAY MEDITATION SESSIONS

Come to free weekly day meditations at the Mindfulness at Ramapo College. These weekly sessions will run on Mondays from September 19 to November 21 and will be partially guided. They are for both new and experienced meditators. There will be a variety of leaders.

“SELF-HEALING FOR CAREGIVERS” WITH MICHAEL KEARNEY, M.D. AND RADHULE WEININGER, M.D.

In this one day seminar for clinicians and caregivers of all disciplines who are interested in formulating an ongoing practice for resilience and self-care, Drs. Kearney and Weininger will exam be the different occupational stress syndromes–burnout, vicarious traumatization and moral distress syndrome.

Participants will explore ways to experience healing through the inner-path of mindfulness meditation and the outer-path of sensory engagement with nature. They will formulate their own customized self-care plan and discuss how to bring these insights back into the clinical setting.

FREE WEEKLY DAY MEDITATION SESSIONS

Partially guided meditations, no experience required in Northern NJ. These free weekly meditation sessions will be led by Peter Shalit on Mondays and Thursdays from 12:10-12:45 until December 22.  Registration is required but walk-ins are welcome and can register at the session.
