We all have many wants, many of which conflict with each other. While we want our courses and work to provide direct tangible benefits – training students for the labor market, providing services, etc., we also want to provide environments that deepen and sustain the emotional, spiritual, physical, moral, and intellectual flourishing of ourselves and those around us. How do we select among what often feels like conflicting aims? In this workshop, we will examine how we can cultivate and sustain an inquiry into what is most deeply important to us and how we can use this sense of meaning to guide us in decisions concerning our work. We will examine this sense of meaning and provide techniques for implementing it into our lives. Through this process, we can better recognize our constraints and make decisions across the many tradeoffs that we face.
