Would you like to practice your Spanish skills in a casual, conversational setting? The Roukema Center for International Education now offers a weekly Spanish Language Happy Hour every Friday from 1:00pm-2:00pm in ASB123! All levels are welcome. The Spanish Club is a community of learners who work together to improve fluency in speaking Spanish. Members are given opportunities to learn aboutor experience aspects of Spanish/Hispanic and Latino culture. They also discover the dynamics of Spanish/Hispanic and Latino culture in the US. Meetings are held weekly, so come check it out! April 1, 2014: Ole Ole restaurant fundraiser. 20% of students’ bills went directly to Grupo Cajola, a non-profit organization working to help Guatemalan immigrants from Cajola, Guatemala.
March 26, 2014: A Taco Night was held, offering a space for members of the Spanish Club and non-members alike to mingle, relax, and enjoy tacos and piña colados together!
December 12, 2013: Yoga in Spanish took place right before the Fall semester finals began. At this unique event, students were able to relieve themselves of some stress and practice their Spanish at the same time!
Octoer 15, 2013: Spanish Dance Lessons, open to all students for free, were offered in Friends Hall. This exciting event was sponsored in conjunction with the College Programming Board.
Sigma Delta Pi, established on November 14, 1919, is a national collegiate Hispanic honor society. The Society’s purposes are, to honor those who attain excellence in the study of the Spanish language and in the study of the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking peoples, honor those who have made the Hispanic contributions to modern culture better known in the English-speaking world, encourage college and university students to acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understanding of Hispanic culture, foster friendly relations and mutual respect between the nations of Hispanic speech and those of English speech, and to serve its membership in ways which will contribute to the attainment of the goals and ideals of the society. April 2, 2014: Partnership with Tri Sigma at Relay for Life. These two organizations raised the most funds of all the organizations present at the event that day.
Spring 2015: Sigma Delta Pi’s Induction Ceremony.
ALMA is an academic and social Latino organization. The organization takes primary focus on fundraising and involvement in numerous community service activities among Latino communities. Through servicing others, growth should be achieved with the acknowledgement that the help being provided is beneficial to one’s self and to the disadvantaged Latino communities. ALMA will be having the general meetings every Monday at 8:30pm, room TBA.
