What are the skills necessary to achieve information literacy?

“Information literacy forms the basis for lifelong learning. It is common to all disciplines, to all learning environments, and to all levels of education. It enables learners to master content and extend their investigations, become more self-directed, and assume greater control over their own learning.” (ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education

The Three Core Information Literacy Competencies for all Ramapo students are:
C1. Determines the information needed
C2. Finds and obtains the information
C3. Evaluates and incorporates the appropriate information

What is the Information Literacy “Plan”?

At the 2008 Spring Faculty In-Service, Potter information literacy librarians introduced a new Information Literacy Progressive Program. The Program outlined a strategy for information literacy in General Education as well as the Majors. Currently, information literacy librarians are assessing the new program and working with faculty on integrating the program throughout the curriculum. How do I integrate the skills that comprise information literacy into my courses?

You can consult the Information Literacy  Competencies & Progression Rubric as well as Reinforcing Information Literacy in the Classroom.
