Young People Take Charge: Climate and Our Future: A North African Perspective With Fadoua Brour

November 27, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Fadoua Brour’s story is important. She trained as a business lawyer in one of Morocco’s largest universities. But, graduating in 2014, Fadoua embarked on a different path, giving voice to future generations by founding and heading the Moroccan Youth Climate Movement. Across North Africa and the Middle East, Fadoua serves as a vocal leader on behalf of those facing climate impacts and an impaired future. She builds the capacity of young people, women and local populations to take on-the-ground action on climate change and environment protection.

Fadoua’s substantive bio shows what a young person can achieve. This program and her entire project is about mobilizing youth and women to take charge of their future. Come be inspired to take charge of yours.

Fadoua will draw broadly from her 7-years’ diverse work and non-profit experience leading social development projects in the field of environment, climate change and education. She has contributed to launching various youth climate networks at the national and regional level, including the Arab Youth Climate Movement; the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network –MENA (Middle East, North Africa) and the Mediterranean Youth Climate Movement. As the president of the Moroccan Youth Climate Movement, she works with her volunteer team to create a generation-wide movement to address the Climate Crisis and promote the role of youth and women as powerful stakeholders in the sustainable development process. Recently serving as regional project director for Germany’s Prestigious Heinrich Boell Foundation, she currently heads the education department for a Moroccan NGO working to improve the educational system in the country. At the international scale, Fadoua organized and ran the COY (Conference of Youth) associated with the UN Moroccan Climate Conference. Since 2012, she has participated in the climate negotiations process -UNFCCC – advocating for the rights of youth and local communities for a just energy transition and sustainable climate solutions.
