Faculty Development Day is a concentrated block of time for instructors to join together, discuss teaching, and develop their skills. Multiple offerings will be scheduled at the same time to provide as many opportunities for participation as possible. All are encouraged to attend!
Faculty Development Day is co-sponsored by the Faculty Resource Center and the Instructional Design Center (IDC). However, other groups on campus are encouraged to offer development opportunities on this day as well!

Many students struggle with the research process. Beyond using library resources, many students struggle specifically with understanding their role in the process. Certain struggles include: the importance of incorporating authoritative sources into papers/projects, how those sources give strength and validity to a thesis, and the understanding (or even believing) that there are information limitations.
This session will provide participants the opportunity to discuss problems they have encountered with student research projects and provide suggestions on how to deal with those problems in order to help their students become stronger researchers. This session will facilitate discussion among faculty and invite participants to exchange ideas on methods they use to help students with common research struggles. The presenter will also provide suggestions with issues raised within the session.

This session will introduce technological resources to help students improve their writing skills, from planning to drafting to crafting to publishing. The session also introduces great writing projects through technology, like designing a website, scripting and producing a documentary, blogging, and more.

Back by popular demand after a successful Fall 2015 session!
“I have one student who won’t show up to class – what do I do?” “How can I stop my students from texting during class?” “Should I allow students to re-do papers if they do poorly?” Do you have a specific question about your class you are struggling with currently? In this Teaching Roundtable, all participants will ask for advice on a specific problem they need help with in their class, and everyone will help brainstorm a solution. As instructors, we all have (collectively) a lot of insight and expertise in teaching – let’s share it with each other! Please be sure to bring (at least!) one question, issue, or problem related to your class you need help with – this session is sure to help everyone ensure their classes are as effective as possible.
Post-tenured and senior faculty are especially encouraged to attend so as to give your advice and insight into teaching.
