The film focuses on retelling the story of this small group of German students who formed a clandestine resistance against the Nazis in the midst of the war by imploring their countrymen to consider the “dimensions of shame that will befall us and our children when one day the veil has fallen from our eyes and the most horrible of crimes- crimes that infinitely outdistance every human measure- reach the light of day.” It is also an exploration of the legacy of this movement on the current generation of German students, and how such stories of resistance have helped shape their sense of German identity and guilt.
