Students may consider taking either a “co-op” or an internship in Literature (or both).
CO-OPS: Cooperative Education is a credit-bearing program places students in positions related to their educational and career goals. Cooperative Education integrates academic learning with faculty supervised work experiences in both public and private sectors.
INTERNSHIPS: An internship is defined as a pre-professional hands-on experience in an area in which the student has achieved some measure of competence or interest.

Students interested in a co-op or internship will need to prepare a résumé:

Résumés give prospective employers their most concrete impression of who you are, where you’ve been, and how you will benefit their institution. Therefore, your résumé is a sort of surrogate for you, advocating for you in your absence. Your résumé is the tool you will use to advocate for yourself.
As you write your résumé, consider the following concerns:

• Tailor your résumé to the type of position you are seeking.
• Emphasize what you consider your strengths and skills–promote those assets you bring to the job.
• Focus on the specifics of your experience: itemize your skills-specify individual aspects of previous positions. For example, rather than writing “Assisted Manager,” write “scheduled weekly hours for 5 employees” or “responded to approximately 50 email inquiries per day.”
