Many faculty members are interested in learning more about pedagogy or higher education issues but do not have the time to attend an in-person session. In these cases, a webinar can be a great opportunity to stay engaged and learning, but do it on one’s own time and schedule.
April GenAI professional development opportunities at Eastern Kentucky University, open to all faculty, staff, and students, free of charge. Below is the schedule with registration links; note that all times listed are Eastern. If you don’t receive a confirmation from fctl@eku.edu within 24 hours of registering, or if you have any questions, please reach out to me at lisa.blue@eku.edu.
April 25 Workshop: Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity – Detection, Documentation, and Due Process
10:30a – 12:00p Presenters: Mr. Dan Royalty and Dr. Lisa Blue
Join us for a practical session focused on navigating the evolving landscape of academic integrity in the age of Generative AI. As AI technologies empower students to produce impressive work, they also introduce challenges of overreliance and potential misuse. We’ll explore effective strategies for identifying AI-generated content and understanding the complexities of AI detectors. We’ll emphasize a beneficial shift towards a relationship-rich approach, highlighting process-based pedagogies that encourage responsible AI use. Participants will gain practical insights into guiding ethical discussions, implementing transparent policies, and fostering an environment that supports integrity while embracing AI’s transformative potential. This session will equip you with the tools to lead with clarity and fairness in shaping the future of academic integrity. Non-EKU participants can sign up for the workshop here. A link to the recording will be provided to all that sign up.
We invite you and your colleagues to join us for a free interactive virtual workshop on “AI & Enhancing Academic Integrity through Transparency in Assignments.”
James Lang, Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence
Ardea Caviggiola Russo, Office of Academic Standards
Kevin Abbott, Teaching & Learning Technologies
Description: As generative AI becomes increasingly integrated into student work, faculty face new challenges in maintaining academic integrity while leveraging AI as a learning tool. This workshop combines survey insights, practical strategies, and assignment design principles to help faculty navigate AI use in written assignments with transparency and integrity.
We will explore recent Notre Dame survey data on first-year students’ attitudes toward AI in writing, discuss ethical challenges, and examine how faculty can design clear and fair AI usage policies. Additionally, we will introduce the Generative AI Acceptable Use Scale and the Transparent by Design framework to help faculty create assignments that foster ethical AI engagement.
Understand the Current Landscape: Review Notre Dame’s survey data on student AI use and discuss trends in academic integrity.
Address Academic Integrity Challenges: Explore strategies to prevent AI misuse, including proactive assignment design, academic policies, and ethical documentation practices.
Evaluate AI in Assignments: Experiment with AI tools to assess assignment effectiveness, identify potential integrity risks, and adjust instructions accordingly.
Enhance Transparency: Learn how to clearly define AI expectations in syllabi and assignments using the Generative AI Acceptable Use Scale.
Improve AI-Integrated Assignments: Use the Transparent by Design framework to refine writing assignments, ensuring clear purpose, tasks, and criteria.
This session will provide hands-on opportunities for faculty to reflect on their own courses, explore solutions, and leave with practical strategies for fostering ethical AI use in student writing.
