The Diversity & Inclusion Fellows (DIFs) will work together as a community of praxis in Fall 2021 where they will engage in readings and workshops that help them to interrogate their own pedagogical philosophies related to inclusive pedagogy and develop and refine strategies and interventions for creating more inclusive classrooms. Faculty participants will then implement these practices in one of their courses in Spring 2022.
The proposed model will begin with a small cohort of faculty (pilot group) who will receive an incentive to work over the course of a semester to modify/ adapt one course syllabus. The target will be to either incorporate a diversity module in their course/ include DEI-focused readings/ modify an assignment to make it more inclusive, or incorporate DEI praxis in the classroom. This model will then be replicated in subsequent years where the first cohort will serve as team leaders for future faculty cohorts.
