Approximately 3,000 students commute to and from Ramapo College, making commuters one of the largest groups of students on campus and an essential part of Ramapo’s family.

Mission Statement

Commuter Affairs is committed to academically and socially connecting commuter students to the Ramapo College community by providing services and programs that will identify and meet the needs of our commuter student population.  With more than 3,000 students commuting to and from Ramapo College, making commuters one of the largest groups of students on campus and an essential part of Ramapo’s family.

Getting to Campus

Driving Your Car

There are numerous routes to access Ramapo College including Rt. 17, 287, and 202 as the primary roads to get to campus.

  • South Parking Lots B-1, B-2 and B-3 are authorized as Commuter Parking only. Lots C-1, C-2, C-3, D-1 and D-3 are authorized as Pine, Linden, Village and guest parking. Parking Lots D-1 and D-2 are first year student-authorized parking areas. View the parking map for additional guidance.

Transportation Services

  • There is a shuttle service that runs from The Bradley Center at Ramapo to the Route 17 Ramsey Train Station throughout the academic year. The schedule varies from the weekday schedule to the weekend schedule and is available online.

Campus Involvement

Student Involvement FairThe beginning of each semester features the Student Involvement Fair for students to find ways to get involved on campus. There are over 100 clubs, organizations, and resources present. 

Commuter Affairs

Commuter Student Mentor (CSM) Program – Program which connects incoming (fall term) first-year commuter students with a Ramapo College commuter student who is an upper class student. These seasoned guides work with the incoming first-year commuter students by assisting them in making the transition to life at college, while also helping them navigate the many different programs and resources that can be found at Ramapo College. The Commuter Student Mentors (CSMs) employ a variety of approaches (digital, social media, one on one, group activities) to support the new commuter students as they endeavor to make a connection to life at Ramapo College.

Commuter BBQ – To open the semester Commuter Affairs hosts an annual barbecue to help incoming first year students connect with other commuter students on campus. This is a great opportunity for mentors and mentees in the Commuter Student Mentor Program

Commuter Breakfast – Select mornings throughout the semester there will be free breakfast available for commuter students in B Lot parking lot, weather permitting. If weather impedes on the event, the breakfast will be hosted outside of the Bookstore, located on the 2nd Floor of the Student Center.

Stressbuster Series – Events throughout the semester for commuters to relieve stress and have mindless, nostalgic fun which generally include free food! Some events include National Playdoh Day, Comic Book Coloring Day and World Pasta Day!

Commuter Focus Group – Monthly meetings for students to express any questions or concerns they have about Ramapo or commuting in general.  Sit down with the Coordinator of Commuter Affairs and help us help you make your experience as a commuter student a great one. Free food and gift card raffles are included.

Other Ways to Get Involved

Student Government Association (SGA) is a collection of students aimed at representing the student body at Ramapo and serving as a bridge between administration and students. Comprised of over 40 elected and appointed officials and numerous delegates, SGA also hosts many events throughout the school year to help improve the student experience.

The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) is the main hub for clubs and organizations, CSI is a major contributor to the overall quality of campus life. You can always stop by the CSI Main Office with any questions or concerns you may have about student activities. Within CSI are the Women’s Center, Equity and Diversity Programs, Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life (OFSL), Student Activities Revenue Management (SARM), and the Civic & Community Engagement Center (CCEC). 

College Programming Board – Looking for a good time tonight? College Programming Board can help you out! CPB plans a variety of events on campus such as carnivals, cooking classes, movie nights, open mic nights, trivia nights, the annual spring concert, and so much more! Programs usually run every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, so check out our calendar to see our upcoming events for this semester! If you’re interested in joining, please attend one of our meetings and/or contact us!

Ramapo Intramurals and Recreation allows students, staff, and faculty to participate in a wide variety of team sports, individual sports, and special events. Everyone is given the chance to compete, stay fit and make some new friends, regardless of your ability level. Active participation in intramural programs can provide you with worthwhile use of leisure time, as well as contribute greatly to your total development. You are invited and encouraged to participate in any aspect of the intramural program. Please feel free to visit our offices located in the Bradley Center. On Campus Resources

George T. Potter Library

  • The Library serves as a gateway to information and promotes intellectual discovery, for the Ramapo community in general and for its undergraduate students in particular, to further the college’s goals for learning, teaching, and research. Toward these ends, the Library maintains a well-organized, balanced, and up-to-date collection of information resources, and provides assistance and instruction in accessing it. There is a computer lab and printer available for students during library hours. There is another computer and printer on the first year of E-Wing. (are hours referring to Library  and E-Wing?  If not, let’s clarify).
  • Hours: 
    • Monday – Thursday 7:45 a.m. – 2 a.m. 
    • Friday: 7:45 a.m. – 2 a.m.
    • Saturday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Sunday: Noon – 2 a.m. 

Center for Reading and Writing

  • The Center for Reading and Writing supports all students in the Ramapo community. One on one walk in sessions with trained peer consultants enable Ramapo students to enhance their skills for greater academic success. The Center also offers Student Workshops on a range of topics from writing the argument paper to critical reading and MLA, APA, and Turabian/Chicago style guidelines. These 45-minute workshops are facilitated by Center staff, faculty and peer consultants. Click below for a list of upcoming workshops. Located on the 2nd floor of the library. 
  • Hours:
    • Monday – Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Center for Student Success 

  • The Center for Student Success provides a comprehensive introduction to the academic and social environment of the Ramapo College community with a focus on the success and retention of all students. Center for Student Success provides a wide range of services including New Student Orientation (First Year Students/Transfers/Readmits/Adult Learners/Families), Academic Advisement, Retention Programs, and Family Day. Center for Student Success serves as the primary resource for Academic Advisement for all community members and works collaboratively with faculty and staff in offering optimal services to our students.

Cahill Center

Health Services

  • All currently enrolled students are eligible to use Health Services free of charge.  Once a student graduates or separates from Ramapo College of New Jersey, he/she is no longer eligible to use the services of Health Services. Health Services is a part of the Division of Student Affairs. It is located near the campus South Gate entrance at the corner of Route 202 and Hornbeam Road.
  • Hours:
    • Monday – Friday: 8:15 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Public Safety

  • The Public Safety Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Its 32 employees utilize foot and vehicle patrols to observe and report situations or activities which may pose a danger to persons or property.

    • If there are school emergencies or campus closing please sign up for the “Alert Me Now” system.
    • Blue Light Emergency- Blue lights are located throughout campus, if you are in danger press the button on the blue light and public safety will be notified, the more lights you press, the more accurate public safety can be in triangulating your location.

The Bradley Center 

  • The Bradley Center is a 110,000 square foot, student-oriented, multi-purpose facility.The Center is built to serve the recreational and intercollegiate athletic needs of the Ramapo community. The Sharp Fitness Center is located within the Bradley Center and is equipped with state of the art weight training circuit and aerobic fitness machines. In addition, the Bradley Center is also home to a rock climbing wall, a swimming pool, as well as the Auxiliary Gym, among other amenities. 
  • The hours for the various facilities within the Bradley Center are found on the Athletics website.

Campus Dining

Campus Dining

There are various dining halls available on campus for all students to eat in. 

  • The Birch Tree Inn is located in the first floor of the Student Center.  This eatery generally caters to students with meal plans, however those without meal plans are welcome to pay using Ramapo dollars, Flex dollars, or cash/credit. They provide a variety of options for food, including fresh fruit and salads, home-style entrées, freshly baked pizza and pasta, deli choices served on freshly baked breads, ice cream and freshly baked desserts, and homemade soups.
  • The Pavilion is located in the Trustees Pavilion. Just like the Birch Tree Inn, it caters to students with meal plans but also accepts Ramapo dollars, Flex dollars, and cash/credit as payment. They also offer the same general menu. 
  • The Atrium, otherwise known as Paycaf to students, is located in the first floor of the Student Center. This dining service differs from the others in that it doesn’t accept meal plans, but instead just Ramapo dollars, Flex Dollars, and cash/credit. 
  • The Adler Café is located on the ground floor of the  Adler Center for Nursing Excellence on campus. Their menu features Seattle’s Best Coffee, breakfast pastries and bagels all day. Adler Café’s seasonal menu includes hot and cold sandwiches, salads, a vegan soup of the day, Mindful entrees and delicious food specials. 
  • The Curtain Call Café The best kept secret on campus is a cozy coffee house located in the Berrie Center. At this location, we proudly serve Starbucks coffee beverages, muffins, danish, whole fruit and items from our Simply To Go line such as sandwiches and salads, parfaits and more.  This operation accepts Cash, Credit, Flex and Ramapo Dollars as methods of payment.
