The Theater Program at Ramapo celebrates individuality and is mission driven to provide the highest quality education, training and production experiences for students from all backgrounds. We are dedicated to close mentorship to develop the strengths of individual students, spark their curiosity and provide opportunities for artistic expression. We engage closely with the Film program to foster intense and ongoing collaborations for on screen work which prepare students for real world careers and the pursuit of further training in graduate
programs
Our mission is founded in the Liberal Arts, and is multicultural, international, interdisciplinary, and experiential as reflected in our curriculum and production season. Students initially engage in all areas of theater: Acting, Design, Technical, Stage Management, Directing, Theater Studies developing a specialized concentration over time. We strive to empower lifelong learners to be engaged citizens, arts advocates, and arts appreciators who positively
impact their local and global communities. The values of equity and inclusion inform all of our choices both pedagogical and artistic as we work to provide significant art of professional quality.
Goals:
1. Prepare Theater majors to enter into the profession or continue their education in graduate school.
2. Provide a rigorous, well-rounded education for those students who go on to careers outside of theater.
3. Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate broad understanding of theater history, literature, and theory in diverse settings.
2. Critically evaluate performances and their elements in written form.
3. Develop artistic and/or practical skills in their particular discipline.
4. Apply creative thinking in analyzing visual, aural, and performance material.
5. Synthesize practical and creative skills employing professional standards in theatrical production.
6. 6. Develop verbal communication skills
Note: A 2.0 GPA in the major is required for graduation.
