The Anisfield School of Business MS in Accounting Program prepares students to become Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) and effective professionals in accounting and control functions in for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. This is accomplished through a comprehensive learning experience in both advanced accounting and CPA exam preparation in order to attain the professional credential and to excel in today’s complex and rapidly changing financial reporting environment. In combination with an undergraduate degree, students will attain the 150 credits required to sit for the CPA examination. Topics include Forensic Accounting, Fraud Examination and Advanced Auditing.
Goal 1: Accounting Integration: Students will be able to apply knowledge of domestic and international accounting principles and standards to financial reporting.
Outcome: Our graduates will interpret and apply appropriate accounting standards and concepts.
Goal 2: Ethics: Students will have the capacity to recognize ethical issues encountered in public and private accounting environments and consider resolutions that are legal and ethical with appropriate consideration on the firms’ material stakeholders.
Outcome: Our graduates will accurately identify ethical deficiencies in the accounting process and recommend effective and viable solutions.
Goal 3: Business Analytics and Critical Thinking: Students will be proficient in the use of statistical and analytical tools to analyze complex accounting problems and will be able to make practical and reliable decisions as appropriate in order to resolve problems.
Outcome: Each student will support conclusions using appropriate research and authoritative pronouncements.
Goal 4: Communication: Students will be effective oral and written communicators.
Outcome 1: Students will deliver an organized and persuasive oral presentation that demonstrates focus, time management, and effective visuals.
Outcome 2: Students will demonstrate effective written communication skills in written assignments that are well-organized with appropriate sentence/paragraph structure, grammar and referencing, and suitable word choice and tone.
Outcome 3: Each student will possess the ability to work in a team as either a leader or group participant and to collaborate effectively in the group dynamic.
