Keith D’Arcy of SONGS publishing will give a presentation on the roles of publishing in the contemporary music industry. SONGS is the leading independent music publisher of contemporary music in the world, representing leading songwriters including Lorde, Diplo, Nelly, and The Weekend.  D’Arcy works in the field of Creative Licensing and Catalog Acquisition at SONGS, and has 18 years of professional experience as a music producer and supervisor at EMI Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing, Sony BMC Music entertainment, and ad agency Bates Worldwide. Keith has placed hundreds of songs in campaigns for global brands like Nike, Mercedes, BMW, Intel, Fidelity, American Express, Pepsi, Fisher Price, Northwest Airlines, Heineken, and Viagra. He also has worked as a producer for independent music house Sacred Noise.

This event is open to students in MUSI 263, MUSI 450 and MUSI 313.

During Latino Heritage Month of 2016, Cuban jazz pianist Harold Lopez-Nussa will share his music with students and the regional community in a two-day residency. He will rehearse and perform with Ramapo students in the jazz ensemble, joined by Ramapo alumna singer Michelle Encarnacion, for a concert Friday night. In addition to showcasing his collaboration with students, the concert in the Sharp Theater will feature his trio, who are sure to entertain the campus and public. During the residency, Lopez-Nussa will also coach students in the course “Music Improvisation” and discuss his career strategies in “The Capstone Seminar in Music.” The “Live Audio Engineering” course will have the opportunity to assemble and manage the audio system for the concert. All Ramapo students will be invited to attend events.

The course Advanced Music Performance will host drummer Bobby Deitch on Monday, November 7th from 3-5pm for a session about groove, rhythm, and career as a gigging musician. Mr. Deitch will bring to class his rich experience as a versatile performer of rock, jazz, and world music in New York and around the US with numerous performers and ensembles. The session will take place during regular course meeting time  and other music students, including those of Musicianship I and Musicianship II, will be invited to join.

The Ramapo College Concert Band will hold its Fall Organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 13th in the H-Wing Auditorium at 6PM. The band is open to all interested instrumentalists and auditions are not required.

Professor Ben Neill has arranged for guest speaker Brian McAndrews to visit his MUSI 263: Business of Music, MUSI 313: Music Online, and MUSI 450: Capstone Seminar is Music courses. Brian McAndrews is an outstanding figure int he contemporary music, media, and technology industries. His visit is a great opportunity for students to directly interact with a highly successful individual whose past experience includes being CEO of Pandora, the leading music streaming service int he United States, as well as Vice President at Disney and Microsoft. He serves on the board of the New York Times where he is Chair of the Technology and Innovation Committee.

This event is open to all students and to the college community.

Students of Professor Gidal’s “Music, Technology, and Media” course will be visiting the outstanding exhibit at the Morris Museum which features an immense collection of mechanical music boxes, player pianos and organs, and related automata which will enhance their understanding of the development of recording devices beginning in the 18th and 19th centuries. They will receive a tour and live demonstration of the key devises for the course.

On Wednesday, April 20 at 5:30 PM Professor Ben Neill will present a demonstration/concert of ambient music and video in his Horizonal installation in the Pascal Gallery. Neill will perform on the mutantrumpet, his self-designed hybrid electro-acoustic instrument. The mutantrumpet enables Neill to control digital audio and video in real time, and was used to generate his multimedia piece based on the paintings of Andy Moses in the gallery installation. The concert will include music from Neill’s Horizonal CD, released in 2015, and his electronic opera The Demo, premiered at Stanford University in 2015.
