At RCNJ, we strive to showcase the College’s mission and brand promises in the content that we publish on our official social media accounts. We aim to highlight what it means to be a Roadrunner from various perspectives and to raise awareness of different opportunities, facilities, programs and events for our campus community. With so many stories to share and tell, #WeAreRCNJ together.

Affiliated social media accounts across the College help support our brand and reputation, whether the account is run by a department or by a student club. These accounts should be aware of and follow our brand standards, logo usage and best practices.

Social Media Requirements

New Accounts

If you are considering opening a new social media account on behalf of a department, club or area on campus, please set up a meeting with the College’s Social Media Strategist to discuss best practices and account set up tips. Email socialmedia@ramapo.edu for more info.

New accounts are reviewed and may be submitted to be recognized to be listed on the College’s Social Media Directory. The Directory is separated into two categories “Official” and “Related” – official is for departments, schools, programs, Athletics, Res Life, etc, while related is for student clubs and organizations. ramapo.edu/social-media/directory/

Brand Name Guidelines

For department/office/unit/club accounts to be easily recognizable as part of the Ramapo College brand, they must abide by the following three name guidelines.

  1. Username
    In the account username/handle, the “RCNJ” acronym should be used in place of just using “Ramapo,” due to many other brand affiliations with that individual word. Older accounts with an established social media presence that use just “Ramapo” in the username should specify “Ramapo College” and/or “RCNJ” elsewhere in the profile.Should the username/handle have multiple words, review it to make sure there are no unintentional misconceptions or double meanings
  2. Profile Name
    • Must include either the full college name prior to department or club’s name, also known as long-form, or the abbreviated college name prior to the department or club name, also known as short-form.
    • Use a | (pipe) to separate the college name from department/club’s name. Doing so provides clear separation and recognition between Ramapo College accounts when searching.
      • Examples Long-Form:
        • Ramapo College | Women’s Soccer
        • Ramapo College | Relay for Life
        • Ramapo College | Greek Life
      • Examples Short-Form:
        • RCNJ | Enactus
        • RCNJ | Garden Club
        • RCNJ | Village Hall Office
        • RCNJ | Wellness
  3. Bio
    • Tag @ramapocollegenj in the first sentence of the account’s “about” section or bio area on Twitter and Instagram.
    • #RCNJ or #RamapoCollege can also be used here but not to replace tagging the @ramapocollegenj official Instagram or Twitter account.
    • For Instagram, if the department or club has multiple links to share from the account, a link sharing website may be used and placed in the “Website” tab of the account.

Logos and Visual Designs

Official logos of Ramapo College should be used only with permission from the Office of Marketing and Communications. You can review our logo standards HERE. There are accessibility standards for posting on social media. Whether it’s writing alternative text (image descriptions), captioning videos, or being mindful of the colors used in visuals, following accessibility practices can ensure that your content is accessible for all Roadrunners. Social Media Group

All approved social media accounts related to RCNJ become members of the College’s Social Media Group. Social media account admins are invited to join this group, made of faculty, staff and students, and is meant to be a place to educate, network and learn.
