The Theater Program is proud to present Butoh Medea! Inspired by the Medea myth and Euripides’ great tragedy, interdisciplinary artist-in-residence, Yokko, uses Japanese Butoh Dance to bring the tortured spirit of Medea to life. The fusion of Eastern dance and Western drama invites the audience inside Medea’s dark and desperate struggle. Trapped in the underworld, she is forever cursed to relive her tragic journey through love, hate, and ultimate loss. Butoh Medea will have its final two performances at Ramapo College after winning numerous awards and touring nationally and internationally for the past ten years.
The event will be in two parts, a student showcase of devised performance pieces developed in workshops with Yokko, a brief intermission, followed by Butoh Medea.
Absolutely no late seating.
Free and open to the public! Limit 2 tickets with advance reservation.
Please note: Butoh Medea contains mature content, depictions of violence, and partial nudity. Intended for audiences 18 and over.
