Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
Directed by Terra Vandergaw
Sharp Theater, April 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9 at 8pm
Everybody, by Obie and MacArthur award-winning playwright Branden Jacobs Jenkins, is an irreverent, surprising, and whimsical re-telling of the 15th century morality play, Everyman. As in the original, the character Everybody is happily going about their life, minding their own business, when suddenly Death comes calling. In a flash, Everybody must confront their own mortality and life’s big questions. Can they get just a little more time? Will Death allow them to bring a companion on their final journey? Did they live a good life? Underscoring the universality as well as the randomness inherent in the human condition, the actors playing Everybody, Friendship, Kinship, Cousin, and Stuff will have their roles determined by lottery each evening in front of the audience. No two performances will be the same! Come face your fears along with Everybody and the rest of the cast in this comedic, thought provoking, and immersive theatrical experiment.
