The Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations is designed for students who are not business majors, but want to learn the fundamentals of business. Understanding these basic building blocks can boost your career in any industry by expanding your professional skills. This certificate in business can also be a path to an MBA if you decide.
To earn the Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations, you will complete the six (2) credit courses listed below. All classes are taken entirely online. These classes provide a broad overview of basic business functions and operations that can be applied in almost any professional context. For non-business undergraduate students who wish to complete an MBA degree, these classes serve as the prerequisites for the full MBA degree.
At a macro level, you will gain insight into how economies operate and how financial markets function, along with their global and personal impacts due to government policies and other factors. You will acquire a solid understanding of financial regulations and compliance, and learn how to analyze data to make informed decisions. The management skills you gain will help you lead projects and organizations effectively.
This foundational knowledge, combined with an understanding of marketing fundamentals, can help improve your communication skills which can be beneficial both professionally and personally.
Current non-business-major RCNJ students in Good Academic Standing are automatically eligible for the Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations Program. Use the Major/Minor Declaration Form available through the Registrar’s Office to enroll in this program. Click on “Change of Major/Minor” to access the form.
Non-Ramapo students are welcome to apply to this program as a Non-Degree Seeking Student through Ramapo’s Office of Admissions.
College Students
Non-business majors enrich their academic experiences and broaden their career prospects by developing a working knowledge of fundamental business concepts, which can increase your earning potential.
Adult Learners
Individuals seeking a career change or applying for a business oriented position would benefit from the program. It can also be an advantage to a college graduate with a non-business degree preparing for an MBA program.
Undergraduate students who are non-business majors, adult learners, college graduates with a non-business degree and those preparing for an MBA program; Ramapo College undergraduate students can complete eight of the twelve credits at the undergraduate tuition rate.
The Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations can be completed in one semester. All courses are offered online in both fall and spring semesters.
If you are a current Ramapo College student receiving aid, the required classes are part of your normal course schedule, therefore are paid through your college account. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid at (201) 684-7549 to see how many credits you are covered for through financial aid. If you are not a matriculated Ramapo College student, this program is not eligible for financial aid because it is a non-degree program.
The courses for the Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations are all credit-bearing Ramapo College courses and tuition is established annually by the Board of Trustees. The cost per credit is dependent on the semester in which courses are taken, as well as in-state or out-of-state status. Yes, all required courses taken as part of the Graduate Certificate in Business Foundations program are recorded on your Ramapo College official transcript. Once completed, your certificate is noted as earned on your Ramapo transcript. Transcripts may be requested online on the Registrar’s website at www.ramapo.edu/registrar/.
