UPCOMING EVENTS, SPRING 2025:

TEACHING CIRCLES:

Wednesday Writing Circles:  Now extended to Staff and Graduate Students!

Faculty, staff members, and graduate students who have scholarship, grant, and other writing projects are welcome to join the Ramapo Online Writing Circle.  If you have writing to complete and would like to carve time out of your busy schedule to make some progress, join Dr. Colleen Martinez on Wednesdays from 9-11 am in her Webex room (https://ramapo.webex.com/meet/cmarti13).  No commitment is required, just log in if you are free.  Attendees check in briefly to share their writing goals, and then everyone turns their microphone and camera off for nearly two hours of writing time.  If you find that it’s hard to find time to write, and you would like to write in a supportive environment, join us.  Email any questions to cmarti13@ramapo.edu.

An Inclusive Pedagogy Circle hosted by Satarupa Dasgupta (Communication Arts)

Meets Virtually (Webex), second Thursdays of the month ( Feb 13; March 13, and April 10) from 1:00-2:00pm.

Increasingly in our classrooms we have students who have learning differences and who are neurodiverse. This teaching circle will be a space where we can discuss ideas, brainstorm resources and exchange knowledge on strategies, resources and best practices to enhance the education outcomes of our students with learning differences, and also improve the teaching experiences of the faculty. The goal will be to create a diverse and equitable learning environment for our students, including those who differ from the neuro-normative, and allow them to flourish within and beyond higher education.

Email Satarupa Dasgupta (sdasgupt@ramapo.edu) to reserve your spot and access readings and Webex invitation.

Meet in the Faculty Resource Center, LC 202

Host: Dr. Kaitlin Sidorsky, Associate Professor of Political Science and Public Policy

In the past few years there has been a notable increase in harsh language and disrespectful dialogue online, in government, and across college campuses. Catherine J. Denial, author of A Pedagogy of Kindness (University of Oklahoma Press 2024) not only noticed this trend, but has also seen how academia itself has long been competitive and individualistic with little kindness to be found. In this Teaching Circle we will read A Pedagogy of Kindness and workshop our own courses to make them more kind. This includes adjusting syllabi, assessments, and content delivery as well as discussing how to improve classroom culture and respectful dialogue. Please email Prof. Kaitlin Sidorsky to reserve your book ksidorsk@ramapo.edu.
